Information for farmstay accommodation guests

Welcome to the Blue Tongue Berries guest page. Below you will find our local guidebook, cafe menus, farmstay rules and information.

Our accommodation guests are invited to wander around the property with our self guided walking tour. We suggest you put on some sturdy walking shoes when outside. Please leave any gates you go through as you find them. Enjoy our stunning 360 degree views and sunsets, we never tire of them, even after more than 24 years of living here.

We hope you enjoy your stay at our little retreat on blueberry hill!

LOCAL GUIDEBOOK

We love our local eateries, wineries, breweries and nature walks. Here's a few of our local favourites and how we rate them.

THE CANTINA

Our on-farm private cafe, the Cantina, offers breakfast all year round exclusively to our farmstay guests. While during the fresh blueberry season over summer we offer a blueberry cafe dining experience to the general public. The Cantina also contains a licensed bar and all things blueberry for sale including berries, jam and ice cream. One Hour Out dropped by the Cantina and we really love the write up they gave us. Take a look here.

Farmstays

Our off-grid farm has five farmstays located over several buildings:

The Hacienda, our bespoke strawbale building encompasses a passive solar design. The Hacienda contains identical rooms Hacienda 1 & Hacienda 2.

The Casita, our original cedar farmhouse overlooks the blueberries and contains Casita 3 & Casita 4, both are separate and contain a private lounge and various kitchen facilities.

The Shack, (farmstay 5) is our newly renovated blueberry pickers shack and is nestled amongst the trees near the dam and veggie garden. The Shack has its own off-grid power system, kitchen, bathroom and composting toilet.

WALKING TOUR OF THE FARM

Take a self guided tour of Blue Tongue Berries

Find your thrill on blueberry hill. Starting at the carpark area, walk into the courtyard between the strawbale Hacienda and the corrugated iron Cantina to see what’s in flower in the garden, then follow the wooden decking past the stone wall of the larder to the viewing deck.

From here, follow the steps up and then through the top gate to the very top of the hill. You'll see a rancho ridge sign hanging on a 400 year old yellow box eucalyptus. Walk over to the water tanks for the mightiest view in Seymour. Here you may be able to spot Mt Puckapunyal, Mt Piper, Mt William and the Tallarook Ranges. You will also notice the interesting "rice-paddy-like" terracing of our blueberry rows.

Heading back down the hill, take a rest on the big timber slab seating on top of the underground larder while admiring the birdlife. Spot the kangaroos boxing at dawn and at dusk.

Go back to the viewing deck then take a stroll down through the blueberry orchard under the big net and munch on ripe berries in summer. Take a gander at the geese, then check out what's in season in the veggie patch. The chickens will expect you to stop for a chat.

Head down to the dam near the Pickers Shack, then look up! You’ll see the view to the hill top tanks where you started. Take a paddle in the canoe and swim in the dam. Keep an eye out for our frolicking Damara sheep around the property and near the barn at the bottom entry gate.

From here follow the gravel road behind the dam past the bee hives and back up the hill to where you started. Grab a drink from the Cantina (message us) then pull up a chair in the courtyard and get ready for another glorious sunset.
